Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir to Witness Lord Ram’s Coronation in May
Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir to Witness Lord Ram’s Coronation in May

Over a year after the grand pran pratishtha ceremony of Ram Lalla, the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is preparing for another significant spiritual event—the coronation of Lord Ram as King, to be held in May, according to a report by The Indian Express.

What’s Happening?

The ceremony will follow the installation of the Ram Durbar—a royal court of Lord Ram—on the first floor of the temple. Unlike the massive celebrations of January 22, 2024, which saw over 8,000 attendees and Prime Minister Modi in attendance, this event will be more ceremonial and subdued.

Temple Construction Nearing Completion

  • The temple’s construction, which began in 2020 after the historic Supreme Court verdict, is now 90% complete.
  • According to Nripendra Misra, chairman of the temple construction committee, the main temple structure will be ready by April 15, and all statues—both inside and outside the compound—will be installed by April 30.
  • The remaining compound wall (parkota) will be completed by the end of the year.

About the Architecture and Design

  • Built in the traditional Nagara style, the temple is:
    • 380 feet long,
    • 250 feet wide,
    • 161 feet tall,
    • Supported by 392 carved pillars and 44 majestic doors.
  • The idol of Ram Lalla (depicting Lord Ram as a child) was sculpted by Arun Yogiraj from Karnataka.
  • The Ram Durbar, made from white Makrana marble, is being carved in Jaipur under the guidance of sculptor Prashant Pandey and his team of 20 artisans.

Other Highlights

  • A statue of Saint Tulsidas, the author of Ramcharitmanas, is also being installed near the temple.
  • The temple surroundings—spanning 20 acres—are being beautified to preserve the site’s natural harmony.

International Ramkatha Museum

Located 4 km from the temple, a state-of-the-art museum is under development. It will feature:

  • A holographic experience bringing Lord Ram’s story to life.
  • Interactive exhibits of Ramayana events.
  • A historical overview of the 200-year-long Ram Mandir movement.
  • Display of artefacts unearthed during archaeological excavations.

In Summary

As the Ram Temple nears completion, Ayodhya is preparing for another spiritual milestone—Lord Ram’s coronation as King, symbolizing the temple’s transition from a construction site to a divine royal court. The upcoming ceremony in May will mark a new chapter in India’s spiritual and cultural journey.
