After completing a remarkable decade in Bollywood, Bhumi
Pednekar is all set to take a new leap in her career with her web series
debut, The Royals. Starring opposite Ishaan Khatter, the
series marks a fresh chapter for the actor known for choosing socially relevant
and unconventional roles.
“Excited but Grounded”: Bhumi on The Royals
Talking about her upcoming series, Bhumi says she’s
overwhelmed with the early response.
“I’m very excited for The Royals. I don’t want to get
my hopes too high; I just want the show to be appreciated for what it is.
Whatever we’ve put out so far has received a lot of love, and it makes me
really happy that people are excited to see Ishaan and me together. He’s a
great actor.”
In The Royals, Bhumi plays a glamorous
entrepreneur, a far cry from the kind of roles she took on at the beginning
of her career. The actress made her debut in 2015’s Dum Laga Ke Haisha,
where she portrayed a small-town woman navigating body image and love.
From Real to Regal
Reflecting on the transformation, Bhumi says:
“For The Royals, it’s a quintessential heroine part
that I’m playing. Looking at where I started from, I couldn’t have even
imagined playing such a character 10 years ago.”
However, she insists her success lies not in the
transformation of her appearance but in the evolution of her journey:
“Yes, I look this way today, but if I had to go back and do
a film that required me to transform again, I’d do it in a blink. My success
doesn’t lie in how I look now, but in the fact that the same girl who started
with Dum Laga Ke Haisha is now playing this character too.”
A Decade of Unconventional Choices
Bhumi has consistently chosen roles that highlight societal
issues — be it Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, Bala, Shubh Mangal
Saavdhan, or Badhaai Do. Known for breaking stereotypes and
portraying strong women, she has carved a niche in the industry as both a
socially conscious and commercially successful actor.
With The Royals, Bhumi not only explores a new format
but also a new side of her on-screen persona — one of luxury, ambition, and
glamour.
