When it comes to hair care, most of us are constantly on the
lookout for treatments that not only make our hair look good but also improve
its health. One such popular salon service is the hair spa—often
promoted as a solution for everything from dryness and dullness to frizz and
even hair fall.
But how effective is it, really?
To clear the air, celebrity hairstylist Amit Thakur—who
styles the tresses of big names like Nita Ambani, Alia Bhatt, Priyanka
Chopra, and Katrina Kaif—recently shared an informative post on Instagram.
He gave his honest take on whether hair spas can actually help reduce hair fall
or if they're just another beauty buzzword.
What Is a Hair Spa, Really?
In his post, Amit starts by answering one of the most common
questions he gets: “What exactly is a hair spa?”
According to him, a hair spa is not a single product or
procedure. Instead, it’s a multi-step treatment that focuses on nourishing
both your hair and scalp. This usually includes oiling, massaging,
steaming, shampooing, conditioning, and sometimes applying a hair mask.
Hair spas are widely recommended for dealing with frizz, and
Amit agrees that they do help—but only temporarily. “Salons claim that it helps
with frizz, and yes, it could temporarily fix your frizz problem,” he mentions.
Can It Really Help With Hair Fall?
Now to the real question: Does it stop hair fall?
The answer, according to Amit, is no—not directly.
While hair spas may not cure hair fall, they do
promote a cleaner, healthier scalp, which could in turn support better hair
growth in the long run. “When it comes to hair fall, a hair spa doesn't
have a huge impact on it, but the scalp is deeply cleaned in the process, which
can promote healthier hair over time,” he explains.
So, while it won’t fix the root causes of hair loss (like
hormonal issues, stress, diet, or genetics), it can complement your overall
hair care routine by improving scalp health and keeping hair strands
nourished.
A Gentler Alternative to Harsh Treatments
What makes Amit recommend hair spa over other popular salon
treatments like keratin or Botox is its gentle, non-chemical approach.
“It doesn’t alter the natural structure of your hair,” he says. In contrast,
treatments like keratin or hair Botox involve chemical processes that can
potentially damage the hair over time.
So, if you're someone looking to pamper your hair without
compromising its integrity, hair spa might just be the right fit.
The Bottom Line: It’s Not a Magic Fix
While hair spas can make your hair feel refreshed,
smooth, and healthier, Amit is clear that they are not a miracle cure
for hair fall. “It can give your hair and scalp a much-needed refresh, but
let’s be clear, they won’t solve hair fall or tackle the root cause,” he writes
in the caption.
That means if you’re facing significant hair loss, it’s best
to consult a dermatologist or trichologist who can help identify and
treat the underlying issue.
Should You Try It?
Absolutely—if your hair feels dull, your scalp feels greasy,
or you just want a relaxing treatment that gives visible results. But go in
with realistic expectations, and don’t treat it as a replacement for
medical or nutritional interventions.
