Former US President Donald Trump, who has intensified
measures against illegal immigration since returning to the White House, has
reportedly stated that he will not seek to deport Prince Harry from the
United States.
In a recent interview with The New York Post, Trump
addressed concerns surrounding Prince Harry’s US visa status, which has
been under legal scrutiny due to past drug use admissions in his autobiography Spare.
However, Trump made it clear that he does not plan to take any action
against him.
"I don’t want to do that," Trump reportedly
said when asked about the possibility of deporting Prince Harry. He further
commented on Harry's personal life, adding, "He’s got enough problems
with his wife. She’s terrible."
Visa Controversy and Legal Challenges
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank,
has raised concerns regarding Prince Harry’s visa application,
questioning whether he fully disclosed past drug use, as revealed in his
memoir. The organization has even taken legal action against the Department
of Homeland Security, demanding transparency regarding the matter.
Nile Gardiner, a representative from the Heritage
Foundation, stressed the importance of truthfulness in visa applications. "Anyone
applying to the US must provide accurate information, and there are doubts
about whether Prince Harry did so," he said.
The think tank has also suggested that Harry may have
received preferential treatment from the Biden administration
following his move to California in 2020 with Meghan Markle, a
transition famously known as "Megxit."
Trump’s Relationship with the Royal Family
Trump’s remarks also included praise for Prince William,
describing him as "a great young man" after a private
meeting in Paris in December 2024 during the reopening of Notre-Dame
Cathedral. This interaction stands in contrast to Trump’s longstanding
tensions with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been outspoken
critics of Trump in the past. Meghan Markle had previously referred
to him as "divisive" and "misogynistic," while Trump
has often ridiculed Prince Harry, claiming he is "controlled"
by Meghan.
"I think poor Harry is being led around by the
nose," Trump said in a previous interview.
