Ajith Kumar and Trisha Krishnan’s much-anticipated film Good
Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, continues to make waves at the
box office after its release on April 10. Despite a noticeable drop in
collections on its second day, the film's worldwide box office collection
has reached an impressive ₹77 crore in just two days.
Day 2 Box Office Numbers
Good Bad Ugly collected a total of ₹44.25 crore
net and ₹52 crore gross in India on its second day. The film also
performed strongly overseas, raking in ₹25 crore, which brought its total
two-day worldwide collection to ₹77 crore.
On its opening day, Good Bad Ugly earned ₹51.40 crore
worldwide, but there was a significant drop on Friday. Nevertheless, it
managed to surpass the lifetime collections of several films, including Madha
Gaja Raja and Veera Dheera Sooran, which is a remarkable achievement
for the film.
Comparison with Previous Releases
Despite the drop on day two, Good Bad Ugly is outperforming
Ajith's previous film, Vidaamuyarchi, which grossed ₹63.45 crore in its
first two days. The film still has a long way to go to surpass the lifetime
earnings of Vidaamuyarchi, which stands at ₹135.65 crore. However, it
has already surpassed the collections of the surprise hit of the year, Vishal's
Madha Gaja Raja, which grossed ₹56.15 crore worldwide.
Another notable achievement for Good Bad Ugly is its
ability to outdo Vikram’s Veera Dheera Sooran, which collected ₹63.45
crore in 14 days. This shows that Good Bad Ugly is setting new
benchmarks and pulling in the audience despite some challenges.
Film’s Plot and Reception
Good Bad Ugly follows the story of Red Dragon
(Ajith Kumar), a gangster trying to atone for his past sins after his wife, Ramya
(Trisha), refuses to let him meet their son until he becomes a better person.
However, when his past catches up with him and his son is kidnapped, Red Dragon
is pushed to go to any lengths to save him.
While the film has been praised for its action-packed
sequences and Ajith Kumar’s charismatic performance, it has also
faced criticism for its lack of strong storytelling. Hindustan Times’
review of the film stated that the movie serves as a “fanboy tribute”
from the director to Ajith Kumar, packed with style, action, and star power,
but with a narrative that doesn’t quite match up to the expectations set by the
high-octane sequences.
Future Prospects
With Good Bad Ugly already surpassing significant box
office milestones in its opening weekend, it will be interesting to see how the
film performs in the coming weeks. Despite the drop in collections on day two,
the film still has the potential to match or even exceed the lifetime
collections of Vidaamuyarchi, given the star power and fan following
that Ajith Kumar brings to the screen.
As of now, Good Bad Ugly stands as one of the most
talked-about films of the year, with many fans eagerly awaiting how it performs
as it continues its theatrical run.
