After a lukewarm response at the box office earlier this
year, Khushi Kapoor and Junaid Khan’s romantic comedy Loveyapa
has found a second wind through its recent release on OTT. The film, which
initially struggled to impress audiences in theatres, is now gaining momentum
on streaming platforms, earning praise for its performances and relatable
storyline.
Released theatrically in February 2025, Loveyapa
marked the big-screen debut of two prominent star kids — Aamir Khan’s son
Junaid Khan and Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor. While Junaid previously
debuted on OTT with Maharaj (2024), and Khushi with The Archies
(2023), this film was expected to establish their box-office credentials.
Unfortunately, Loveyapa failed to make a mark commercially and was
overshadowed by negative reviews and comparisons, especially following Khushi's
critically panned Nadaaniyan.
OTT Release Turns the Tide
However, the tables have turned post its digital release on JioCinema
and Disney+ Hotstar, where Loveyapa is now being rediscovered by
audiences. Viewers are appreciating the fresh chemistry between Khushi and
Junaid, and many have called the film "underrated" and "worth
watching."
One user wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Just watched it on #JioHotstar #Loveyapa. I don’t know why
there was so much negative publicity of this movie. It’s such a well-made film
with a good message. Both lead actors #KhushiKapoor and @JunaidKhanREAL have
acted well. Worth a watch and definitely worth praise.”
Another fan shared:
“Watched #Loveyapa last night and it was a decent watch.
Dunno why there was so much hate around it. Very relevant storyline especially
for today’s generation. Seeing Junaid in a light-hearted comedy role after Maharaj
was fun and I think Khushi did better in Loveyapa than Naadaniyan.”
Yet another viewer posted an “unpopular opinion”:
“#Loveyapa was fun to watch. #KhushiKapoor definitely has
potential. #JunaidKhan is a good actor, and Khushi has good comic timing.
Overall, the film was a fun watch ⭐️⭐️⭐️½.”
Plot Overview
In Loveyapa, Khushi and Junaid play Baani and
Gaurav (aka Gucci) — two individuals from different backgrounds who
accidentally swap their phones just before an arranged marriage meeting. What
follows is a chaotic, humorous, and heartwarming journey of self-discovery and
love, laced with social commentary on modern relationships.
