
A 25-year-old technician, identified as Deepak, has
been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 46-year-old air hostess
inside the ICU of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana. The incident occurred
on April 6, but came to light on April 14, prompting swift action
from the Gurugram Police.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Arpit Jain, an
FIR was filed immediately after the complaint, and a Special Investigation
Team (SIT) was formed. With the help of eight crack teams,
investigators scanned around 800 CCTV cameras and questioned medical
staff to track the accused, who had been on the run for four days. He was
arrested within Gurugram.
The Victim’s Complaint
The survivor, a flight attendant from West Bengal, was
undergoing treatment in the ICU after falling ill during a hotel stay in
Gurugram. In her complaint, she stated that she was semi-conscious when she
felt the accused violate her under the pretense of checking her medical
equipment. She alleged that the act was committed in the presence of two
nurses.
“I could hear everything. The man asked the nurses for
inventory details and later inappropriately touched me, claiming to check my
waistband,” she told the police.
Investigation & Background
The accused had been working as a technician at Medanta
Hospital for the past five months. He is originally from Badhauli village
in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.
The survivor had traveled to Gurugram on March 31 to
attend a training workshop organized by an airline company in Sector 75.
Police have confirmed that further action will be taken
under Section 376 of the IPC (rape) and other relevant charges, and
assured strict accountability in the case.
