Stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra is facing multiple
legal cases after allegedly making remarks targeting Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath
Shinde during his show ‘Naya Bharat’ at The Habitat Studio in
Mumbai. As the controversy escalates, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut
has demanded special protection for Kamra, similar to what was granted
to actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in the past.
Key Developments in Kunal Kamra Case
1. Legal Trouble Mounts
- Mumbai
police have registered multiple cases against Kamra under the Bharatiya
Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections:
- Section
353 (statements causing public mischief)
- Section
356(2) (defamation)
- Complaints
were filed by Shiv Sena leaders from Jalgaon, Nandgaon, and
Manmad who accused Kamra of defaming Shinde.
2. Anticipatory Bail and Public Threats
- Kamra,
who is currently in Tamil Nadu, was granted anticipatory bail
by the Madras High Court till April 7.
- He
cited public threats from Shiv Sena workers, making it
unsafe for him to approach courts in Maharashtra.
- Mumbai
police have issued two summons since the first FIR on March 24.
3. Sanjay Raut Demands Protection for Kamra
- Sanjay
Raut has called for special security for Kamra, comparing his
case to Kangana Ranaut’s when she had a rift with the Shiv Sena.
- Raut
argued that if Kangana was granted security, Kamra should also be
protected from political retaliation.
4. Owaisi Defends Kamra
- AIMIM
chief Asaduddin Owaisi has come out in support of Kamra,
questioning why Shinde and his party are taking a comedy act personally.
- He
stated:
“Kamra did not name anyone directly. The real ‘traitors’
are those who apply laws selectively.”
5. Kangana’s Past Involvement
- Interestingly,
Kangana Ranaut defended the BMC’s demolition drive at The
Habitat Studio, where Kamra’s show was filmed.
- This
has further fueled political tensions in Maharashtra.
The Bigger Picture
This case highlights the growing tensions between
political figures and comedians in India. With elections approaching,
Kamra’s legal troubles and the fight over freedom of speech are set to
remain in the spotlight.
