As IPL 2025 kicks off, speculation surrounding MS Dhoni’s
future in the tournament has been a hot topic. The legendary cricketer sparked
retirement rumors when he arrived in Chennai wearing a T-shirt with the phrase
"One Last Time" in Morse code. However, ahead of Chennai Super Kings'
(CSK) highly anticipated opener against Mumbai Indians, Dhoni finally addressed
the speculation, making it clear that he and the franchise are not ready to
part ways just yet.
Speaking to Jio Hotstar ahead of the much-awaited ‘El
Clasico’ clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Dhoni expressed his unwavering
commitment to CSK. He humorously stated that even if he were injured and
confined to a wheelchair, the franchise would still convince him to play
another season.
"I can play for as long as I want for CSK. That's my
franchise. Even if I'm in a wheelchair, they'll drag me," Dhoni
remarked, dismissing retirement talks.
Dhoni’s Road to IPL 2025
During the 2023 IPL season, Dhoni battled a knee injury,
which eventually led to surgery after the tournament. He took the rest of the
year to recover before making a comeback for IPL 2025. This season, he has
stepped away from his captaincy duties and moved lower down the batting order,
preferring to bat at No. 8 or below. Despite limited appearances at the crease,
he impressed with 161 runs off 73 balls, maintaining a staggering strike rate
of 220.
A Shot at History
As CSK begins their 2025 campaign, Dhoni is on the brink of
making history. He is just 19 runs away from surpassing former teammate Suresh
Raina to become the highest run-scorer for the franchise in IPL history. Raina
currently leads the chart with 4687 runs.
Additionally, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is closing in on
another milestone, needing just eight more wickets to become CSK's all-time
leading wicket-taker in the IPL. He currently trails Dwayne Bravo, who holds
the record with 140 wickets.
With Dhoni’s determination and CSK’s unwavering support,
fans can expect the iconic player to continue entertaining them, whether it’s
this season or beyond.
