Russian Drone and Missile Strike Hits Kyiv: 9 Dead, Over 60 Injured

In one of the deadliest aerial assaults in recent months, Russia launched a large-scale overnight drone and missile strike on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, killing at least nine people and injuring over 60 others, including six children.

The Kyiv City Military Administration, in a statement on Telegram, confirmed that the city was targeted by a coordinated attack involving drones and ballistic missiles. The strike occurred around 1:00 AM local time, setting off air raid sirens across the capital and sending residents rushing to bomb shelters.

🔥 Widespread Damage Across Residential Areas

Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, reported multiple fires and explosions throughout the city. Residential buildings were severely damaged, with emergency services working through the night to pull survivors from the rubble and extinguish fires.

Local media and international reporters described the capital as engulfed in smoke, sirens, and chaos. Many residents were seen emerging from underground shelters as dawn broke, shocked by the scale of destruction.

🗨️ Ukrainian Leadership Slams Russia

Top Ukrainian officials condemned the attack as another brutal and deliberate strike on civilians.

“Putin shows only a desire to kill,” said Andriy Yermak, a key aide to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Despite recent appeals for peace and civilian safety, Russian President Vladimir Putin has yet to respond to Ukraine's request to cease targeting non-military areas.

The Kremlin has remained silent following this latest escalation.

🇺🇸 Trump Claims a Deal, Blames Zelensky

Interestingly, the attack came just hours after former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that Russia had agreed to a deal to end the war, but suggested that Zelensky was standing in the way of peace by refusing to give up Crimea, annexed by Russia in 2014.

“I thought it might be easier to deal with Zelensky,” Trump said during a briefing. “So far, it’s been harder.” He also blamed Zelensky for “prolonging the killing field.”

Trump's comments have sparked criticism both domestically and internationally, as the humanitarian toll continues to rise with no real ceasefire in sight.

🔚 Ongoing Crisis

As Kyiv mourns yet another tragic night, the death toll may rise, with rescue operations still underway. The latest strike underscores the increasingly fragile nature of peace talks and the ongoing threat to Ukrainian civilians amid a war that shows no sign of slowing.
